The Water Thieves: Oil Companies And The Droughts They Cause

As media conglomerates portray frightening but false stories of global warming and tell us that we are the overpopulated reason for which the water supply is running at all-time lows in reservoirs, lakes, man-made lakes, rivers, ponds, etc… the unknown reason behind this water depletion needs to see the light of day.

And so, this is a brief explanation of who has been stealing our water, and possibly a partial reason that dams and reservoirs were constructed in the first place…

When an oil or natural gas company or one of its contractors drills for oil or extracts natural gas from the earth, a space (or vacuum) is left underground for which the oil used to fill. An easy way to think about this is to compare this process to a syringe sucking the blood from your body.

Now, if that syringe was big enough it would suck your body completely dry of blood. This would leave your body looking like a shriveled up raisin, because your body cannot recreate the fluids fast enough to keep up with the sucking power of the syringe. Therefore, your body would behave like a milk jug would as you sucked all of the liquid or air (gas) out.

This extraction of air (or liquid) causes a vacuum, and stays that way as long as the seal is not broken. If you were to try and spread out the milk jug to its proper shape, the vacuum (or lack of air) would prevent you from doing so. This is because the air is only dense enough to support the jugs currently collapsed shape, and that inside space must be filled with something (air, gas, liquid) at some pressure to be able to push out and retake its previous shape. Thus, if you pull on one side, the opposite side will collapse further inward.

If you broke the seal formed by your mouth and that of the plastic jug, a sudden burst of air would rush in and the jug would re-inflate itself according to the amount of pressure caused by that air. It would not be enough to reform the plastic jug to its original shape without you actually applying pressure to the inside of that container by resealing your mouth onto the jug and blowing into it.

I know everybody reading this has done this to at least one water bottle at least once in their life!

The only way to un-raisin the body would be to re-inject either the extracted blood… or a replacement liquid. And so, as long as the same amount or mass of a different liquid is replaced with sufficient pressure applied to the syringe, the body will likely go back to normal, though the lifeblood which supports life cannot be replaced with anything but blood. Thus, life will cease to exist. But regardless, as long as the entry hole for the syringe is plugged up and the liquid introduced is not smaller than the microscopic holes of which the container is constructed (in this case veins and the skin), the liquid will stay in the body. Think embalming…

Of course, the body, once decomposition begins, will eventually weaken to the point where the liquid inside (in a vacuum) breaks its container due to deterioration and leaks, soaks into something else, or evaporates. Wear and tear…

What’s my point?

Likewise, the oil reserves which run under ground beneath the entirety of the United States, are very similar to the above described human body full of blood. Most important to understand, is that these oil reserves are not individual bodies of oil, but rather, one continental mass of black crude and natural gas.

You see, there is a literal ocean of oil and natural gas right underneath our feet, flowing like blood throughout the continent and beyond. This is called the Hugoton Panhandle Natural Gas Reserve -or- H-P Reserve for short.

The oil and gas in the H-P Reserve runs all the way from the northern tip of Canada, to the southern most tip of Mexico, and from ten miles west into our Pacific Ocean from California, Oregon, Washington and Alaska, and all the way across the continental United States, Canada, and Mexico to about ten miles or so east of our land, into our Atlantic Ocean.

In other words, The United States, Canada, and Mexico are virtually floating on a body of interconnected, pools and veins of oil!

This means that, just as when a doctor takes a syringe full of blood from your body (your arm is just a part of your body with blood flowing into it from the whole), when an oil or gas company taps into this reserve at one spot on the continent, they are literally taking oil or gas from a totally encompassing collective pool by tapping a single vein from the whole of this ocean of oil: the H-P Reserve.

So, the entire North American continent is perched directly over the H-P Reserve.

And within it’s tectonic structure, the continent of North America also includes the Gulf of Mexico. This is to say that the same oil that is located 35,000 feet below the oceans surface for which British Petroleum (BP) decided against all warnings and better judgment to drill more that 30,000 feet below the ocean bottom could have been sucked out of the Earth at just about any location in North America. In some areas in the United States, that oil is a mere 50 feet below the dry land surface.

Perhaps the most frightening aspect of this current BP oil leak, is that this is not just an oil leak. Noxious, poisonous gasses like Benzine are being spewed from now multiple fissures in the bedrock of the oceans floor.

So what does this all mean?

Energy and natural gas companies own or have governmental rights to well over 80 million acres of the most oil and gas rich land in the United States, and the world. In short – deep ocean drilling is not in any way necessary.

As for natural gas, the process by which these corporations extract the natural gas from these underground caverns and veins is to pump mass amounts of water (from our rivers and drinking water reservoirs that we are taxed for) into these chambers. This water pushes the natural gas through the chambers until it reaches an extraction point that pumps it out into the natural gas pipelines, which carry it to the energy company’s processing plants. This wasting of one vital precious resource to extract another less urgent natural resource has been going on for more than 100 years.

Of course, this extraction point is only viable as long as the “replacement water” hasn’t filled up or made the gas pressure un-extractable in the caverns holding the pressurized natural gas. Once this happens, these giant energy companies abandon the extraction point and move on to another where the gas pressure is more dense and extractable by the same replacement water system.

And the reservoirs and rivers continue to see record low levels. And water rationing takes place amongst the unknowing people of American towns and cities. And farms are denied water in lieu of more profitable energy companies. And the bread basket that was America slowly rots…

Eventually, the replacement water seeps through the porous shale soil and rock that is dense enough only to hold the oil at bay, and gravity pulls this water down into the earth and sometimes into the river-like aquifers that flow beneath the H-P Reserve. And the energy companies know that eventually the vacuum that is left over from that water slowly being drained from the encompassing and interconnected reserve’s tunnel system will pump more natural gas from other parts of the whole of the H-P Reserve. And eventually that tunnel system will have enough gas reintroduced into it that the same energy company will come back and start the whole process over again, extracting the gas with even more “replacement water”, depleting the gas, and abandoning the sight yet again until the water seeps into the earth once again and the vacuum pulls even more gas into the chambers and the process is repeated again and again and again.

But who is replacing the water? Who is watching over the rivers and reservoirs?

Answer: the same government that has financial and controlling stock investments in these energy and oil companies! The same government that gives these oil and gas companies no-bid contracts to steal and destroy our water supply. The same government that is passing legislation as we speak to tax your carbon emissions and force you to ration your water use and not water your garden. The corporation that is United States Inc.

There is just one small problem…

There is only a finite amount of gas produced in these H-P Reserve tunnels. But the vacuum must still be re-filled with something, right?

As the vacuum that is created gets more intense as more and more gas and replacement water gets sucked out of the reserve tunnels, something must fill in the space, just as the milk jug caves in on its opposite side as you pull it without a reintroduction of air, gas, or liquid.

So what is smaller on a molecular level than gas? How about oxygen? And so we have air being forced into these caverns to relieve the pressure caused by the vacuum created by the energy companies, mostly through the very vent pipes that they drilled in the first place.

Now, for all of you couch chemists out there… what happens when you mix gas and oxygen?

That’s right, it becomes explosive!

I wont say that I can comprehend what would happen in the case of a spark that ignited anywhere in this underground system of interconnected tunnels and caverns… but I must say that it sounds like the whole of America is sitting on top of a ticking time-bomb that, once ignited, might just make Hiroshima look like a campfire.

Water is a precious commodity, finite and life-giving. Can we really sit back and allow these corporations (including our own government) to suck our life force dry?

I don’t know what to do about this, but I do know that knowledge and education is the key.

Now that you know about the water thieves, what will you do about it?
