/ June 10, 2020On page 46 of Withdraw you Consent from Kirks site it states the following on page 46
The land on which the District is formed was ceded by the state of Maryland in 1790 following the passage of the Residence Act.
The Act specified that the laws of the state from which the area was ceded would apply in the federal district, meaning that Maryland laws applied on the eastern
side of the Potomac while Virginia laws applied on the western side in the District of Columbia until the government officially took residence.
According to this the land was owned by a Francis Pope of Rome Maryland
